VC (video conference) with Hatboro Horsham High in the US

Ok, this post is exactly 1week late. I went for e video conference last week, and it was exciting and scary, and awkward at the same time. But it's definitely an experience not to be missed. I got to know what it's like in the US. Okay, not know it very well, but an insight. For example, they have an Act (as in a law/ movement etc) which allows the goverment to check what books you borrow etc. It is to prevent terrorism (so they say). I mean, it is like big brother's watching them (oh yah, did i forget to mention the purpose of that conference was to talk about George Orwell's 1984).

So they asked us questions like "What do you all think about Bush and Kerry", "are u given the freedom to speak against ur govt?", etc. And i tell u, ppl were hard pressed not to yell on and on about Bush. haha.. I can just see them restraining themselves. Hilarious man~ in the end, ming yan gave a civil ans, "we personally don't support the war on Iraq, so we don't support Bush" blah blah blah. And, seriously, I thought the ans of freedom to speech was really errr.... Okay, let's just say that the answer prolly encouraged the Americans to think that sg is a place with no freedom, a totalitarian state etc. I mean, they actually said that the people of sg prolly didn't dare to use the speaker's corner as they get arrested blah blah blah. Ok, it is true, but that's a minor reason to y singaporeans don't use the speaker's corner. The biggest reason I would say is becos: They don't give two hoots about it!!! They probably don't wanna waste their time, too busy in everything but the country's politics. Simple. Besides, Singaporeans are relatively satisfied ( i think)..

Before the VC was really funny. Dr.S told us to remember that the Americans are quite 'in a world of their own' (they don't even get world news!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and that if they comment on singaporeans good command of the English lang, we shldn't take offence. hahahah.. I can just imagine Dee or Joel replying "so do you" with that fake smile. hahahahahaa... hilarious. Den Dr.S told us if the Americans ask if Singaporeans get flogged on the street, we are not to take offence and answer civil-ly. Dee promptly 'rebutted' pretending that the Americans were infront of us and said: "Do they flog ppl on YOUR streets?" hahaha.. Was really funny then and there

Anyway, VC aside, I just finish watching Troy. Oh god, brad pitt is *whistles*. I thought the romance between Achilleus and Briseis was sooooo sweet. Makes me wanna borrow the Iliard and Odessey (yes yes. I know I haven't really started on the Iliard the last time i borrowed it). *gets defensive* That book was so totally not reader friendly. And the Greek names are overwhelming. Not only do you NOT know how to pronounce it, and in one page they named sooooo many greeks, especially the part where the greeks were preparing for the 1000 ships to Troy. It was sooo confusing.. Was almost tempted to make a family tree!! hahaha.. Think i will just go and buy a reader frenly one. Or i will just cry. Also must read the Prince by Machavelli. But first, i must finish reading my Silas Marner, Do androids dream of electric sheep etc. haha..

PW day is approaching. Yikes! And chinese. I am afraid I can't even get a freaking D7... *groans*
